First thing is to double check that the center of gravity is correct and also check that the 

controls are working in the correct direction. When you move your aileron control stick to 

the right the right aileron should go up and the left one down. When you move the stick 

left the left aileron should go up and the right one down. When you move your elevator 

control stick down the elevator should go up and when you move the stick up the eleva-

tor should go down. The rudder control is straightforward, left rudder stick is left rudder 

and right stick is right rudder. 

Wait for a day with light winds and find a large grass area clear of trees, wires

away 

from roads and buildings and free of spectators

 to help you launch 

the Floater Jet

 for the first time

. Switch on your transmitter with the throttle closed and 

connect the flight battery, check the controls are working correctly and in the right 

direction as above and that all control surfaces are neutral. It is always good at this 

point to do a range check of your equipment to check that everything works as it should 

do. Get your helper to hold your model at about waist height while you walk away 

working the flying controls. It is good to check the motor as well when you are a distance 

away from the model to check that it does not interfere with the radio signal and give you 

glitching servos. Please make sure you warn your helper before doing this so that they 

keep themselves well away from the rotating propeller.

Once satisfied everything is working as it should you are now ready to do some test 

gliding. Get you helper to hold your model just above head height and facing into wind, 

they need to give the model a firm throw with the nose slightly down, do not have the 

motor running for this exercise. The glide should be long and flat with no tendency to 

turn. If it dives slightly then apply a small amount of up trim on the transmitter and try 

again. If it raises its nose and gently stalls then you need to apply a small amount of 

down trim. Keep doing these test glides until you get a long flat glide. If the model has a 

tendency to turn left or right then apply either some aileron trim or rudder trim in the 

opposite direction to the turn. Once the model is trimmed nicely do some practice 

launches and try doing a gentle S turn into wind while it is gliding just to get used to the 

controls.

Once happy with the test gliding you should now be ready for some gentle flying with 

power. Once again get your help

 to hold the model just above head height and into 

wind and when you are ready apply some power, do not apply full power as it is not 

needed, half or just over is more than sufficient. When you are ready ask your helper to 

launch the model, if trimmed correctly it should climb away nice and gently with no 

tendency to turn. If it does try to turn use the ailerons to keep the wings level and the 

model flying straight into the wind, the climb should be gentle, do not climb too steeply 

or it may stall and spin or spiral into the ground. Once up to a safe height and well up 

wind throttle back slightly until it stops climbing but not so much that it starts coming 

down. At this point check the trim of the model, let go of the aileron and elevator stick 

and watch the model, any tendency to turn or climb or dive then adjust the trims as 

necessary. The elevator should be fine if you did the test gliding correctly, the model will 

climb under power, this is normal and when you throttle back in should go into the long 

flat glide that you trimmed for. Between quarter and mid throttle somewhere it should 

maintain its height and fly level, you may need to keep adjusting the throttle to maintain 

level flight depending on the weather conditions.
