Troubleshooting
This chapter describes how to troubleshoot the S12500 switch installation failures.
The power supply system, fans, and cards of an S12500 switch have multiple LEDs, through which you
can locate the failures.
Configuration terminal problems
If the configuration environment setup is correct, the configuration terminal displays booting information
when the switch is powered on. If the setup is incorrect, the configuration terminal displays nothing or
garbled text.
No terminal display
If the configuration terminal displays nothing after the switch is powered on, verify the following items:
•
The power supply system is operating properly.
•
The main processing unit (MPU) is operating properly.
•
The console cable has been connected to the console port of the MPU.
If no problem is found, the following reasons may apply:
•
The console cable is connected to an incorrect serial port (in other words, the serial port in use is not
the one set on the terminal).
•
The properties of the terminal are incorrect. You must configure the console terminal as follows: set
Bits per second
to
9600
,
Data bits
to
8
,
Parity
to
None
,
Stop bits
to
1
,
Flow control
to
None
, and
Terminal Emulation
to
VT100
.
•
The console cable fails. If the cable fails, you can replace a cable.
Garbled terminal display
If terminal display is garbled, verify that the following settings are configured for the terminal, for
example, HyperTerminal:
•
Baud rate
—9,600
•
Data bits
—8
•
Parity
—none
•
Stop
bits
—1
•
Flow
control
—None
•
Emulation
—VT100
