Installation precautions
Installing the switch
•
The switch is heavy. For rack stability, install it at a lowest possible position on the rack.
•
Hold the chassis handles to move the switch. Do not hold the handle of a fan tray, a power
module, or a module, or the air vents of the chassis to move the switch. Any attempt to move the
switch with these parts might cause equipment damage and even bodily injury.
•
The switch is heavy. As a best practice, use a mechanical lift, such as forklift truck, to move and
carry the switch to the rack. If no mechanical lift is used, cooperate with a minimum of four
people to move the chassis by using the chassis handles.
•
Remove the fan trays, power modules, and filler panels from the switch before moving it.
Reinstall these components after installing the switch in the rack.
•
Do not place your hand into any slot when you move the chassis.
•
Place the switch on the slide rails from the front of the rack to prevent the mounting brackets
from hindering the rack-mounting of the switch.
•
After placing the switch on the slide rails, do not leave go of your hands immediately because
this might tip the switch, damaging the switch or even causing bodily injury
•
Reliably grounding the switch is crucial to lightning protection and EMI protection. Ground the
switch reliably before you use it.
Installing a module
•
When you install a module, avoid touching the connectors on it.
•
If you are not to install a module in a module slot, install a filler panel in the slot.
•
A fan tray covers fabric module slots. Install fabric modules or filler panels in the fabric module
slots before installing a fan tray.
•
To replace or install a fabric module for an operating switch, first remove the fan tray that covers
the slot of the fabric module. Install the fan tray immediately after the replacement or installation.
After the fan tray starts operating, you can replace or install fabric modules whose slots are
covered by the other fan tray.
•
When you hot swap a fabric module, only one fan tray is operating and it automatically
increases the fan speed. Take noise protection measures such as wearing an earmuff or
earplug. In addition, make good preparation before hot swapping a fabric module to minimize
the operation time.
•
To prevent a filler panel from being drawn into the chassis when fan speed is high, use both
hands to grasp the filler panel by its two sides during filler panel installation and removal on an
operating switch.
Installing a fan tray
•
When installing and removing the fan tray, keep your hands and fingers away from the spinning
fan blades.
•
To avoid fan tray damage, use both hands when installing or removing a fan tray.
•
A fan tray covers fabric module slots. Install fabric modules or filler panels in the fabric module
slots before installing a fan tray.
