ENGINE - STARTING
NOTE: An Insufficient Cab Air Pressure
Indicator will appear on the Machine
Display Home Page - Road or Field
Mode each time the machine is
started, due to a slight activation
delay of the RESPA
®
Cab Filtration
System. The indicator will disappear
once the cab becomes pressurized.
Pre-Operational Checklist
1. Check engine oil level.
NOTE: Do not operate the machine when oil
level is below the “L” (low) mark or
above the “H” (high) mark on the
engine oil dipstick.
2. Check engine coolant level.
3. Check diesel exhaust fluid level (Final
Tier 4 engines).
4. Check hydraulic reservoir oil level.
5. Check cooling air intake screen.
6. Drain fuel/water separator.
7. Check engine drive belt.
8. Drain water out of the air tank.
9. Check for any oil or fuel leaks.
Cold Weather Starting
STS10/STS12
1. Turn the ignition key to the ON position,
but DO NOT engage the starter.
(Wait
for the “Glow Plugs Active” indicator
to disappear on the Machine Display)
.
The following warning message will
appear on the Machine Display during
cold weather conditions. Press OK to
acknowledge that you understand the
engine requires a warm-up period before
engaging the starter.
CAUTION
Start engine from the operator’s seat
only. Before starting engine in a confined
building, install proper outlet exhaust
ventilation equipment. Always use
safety approved fuel storage and piping.

Ether is highly flammable. DO NOT use
ether when starting an engine equipped
with glow plugs.
