INTENDED USE
This manual includes both snatch block models with shackle and with hook. Snatch blocks can be used for
lifting and pulling applications, to redirect a wire rope or to increase the load (by doubling the line) that the wire
rope winch system would be able to handle in a straight loading without a block. Snatch blocks are designed
so that the side plate can be opened for the easy insertion of a loop of wire.
All safety precautions and other related information shall be adhered. This manual must be retained throughout
the product life cycle.
SAFETY
Danger exists when lifting/handling loads, particularly when the snatch block is not used properly or is poorly
maintained. Since an accident or serious injury could result, special safety precautions apply to the operation
with the snatch block during its assembly, maintenance and inspection.
•
Operation and maintenance shall be performed only by competent and trained personnel
•
DO NOT
use the snatch block for lifting or transporting people
•
DO NOT
lift or transport loads over or near people
•
DO NOT
load the snatch block more than the lifting capacity shown on the snatch block label allows
•
Ensure safe holding of the load in a stable position after termination of the manipulation
•
Make sure the load carrying structure will provide adequate support to handle a fully loaded snatch
block and all the lifting operations, and that all fastenings/accessories are proper for the installation
•
Let people around to know when a lift / an operation is about to begin
•
Read safety operating instructions
•
Ambient operating temperature is between -10 °C and +50 °C
•
DO NOT
use the snatch block in corrosive environments (e.g. exposed to acids)
SAFETY OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Always check and follow the label attached to the snatch block for information of snatch block
’s lifting capacity
and wire rope size. Improper wire rope size could have a negative (wearing) impact on the sheave and/or rope.
The maximum load that is allowed to be applied to the snatch block is marked on the product (WLL). Be aware
that the rigging method effects on the total loading which is directed to the snatch block and it could differ from
the weight being lifted or pulled by the system. Therefore, it is necessary to always determine case-by-case
basis (by a qualified person) the total load to which the snatch block is exposed to. See the load-angle chart
at the end of this document for reference for single-line system.
Note: Wire rope's passage over the sheave will bend the rope. Some ropes may be sensitive to bending and
vulnerable to fatigue. This needs to be considered, especially for continuously running operations. Always
follow the rope manufacturer
’s recommendations regarding min. sheave size.
Snatch block with shackle is opened by removing the safety pin, rotating the quick pin bolt and then the side
plate can be slid away opening the snatch block so that the rope can be inserted. Hook-type snatch block
’s
side plate is equipped with a spring-loaded quick latch. Never conduct the opening procedure when the snatch
block in under load. Always ensure that the side plate locking mechanism is secured before applying load.
Prior to use
•
DO NOT
pull loads firmly embedded or of unknown weight
•
DO NOT
pull without knowledge of the necessary tensioning forces
•
DO NOT
use a damaged or worn-out snatch block
