NOTE - OCTAVE
This allows you to set the octave in which the selected Zone will
sound. The setting range is -2 to +2.
⓯
NOTE - VOLUME
This allows you to set the volume (Control Change #7) of the
selected Zone.
NOTE: if the “CC#” parameter is set at “VOL,” this value will
have no effect.
⓰
NOTE - PAN
This allows you to set the direction of the selected Zone. (Con-
trol Change #10).
⓱
NOTE - VELOCITY
This allows you to set the velocity curve of the selected Zone.
The setting range is OF and 1 to 4. At OF, the velocity is fixed
at 100. The “touch” (velocity response) of the keyboard pro-
gresses from 1 (heavier) through 4 (lighter).
⓲
EXPRESSION - MINIMUM
⓳
EXPRESSION - MAXIMUM
These allow you to set the range to “compress” the expression
information to send to this zone.
In the XK-5 default mode, if the Expression Pedal is all the way
closed, there is still a small amount of organ volume. If a MIDI
sound module is used, the Expression Pedal will express all the
way down to “zero.” This is a parameter to balance the two.
The setting range is MIN At “0,” to 63, MAX at 64 to 127.
⓴
EXPRESSION - CONTROL NUMBER
Some MIDI modules use Controller #7 to control volume
while others use Controller #11 Expression. This parameter
allows you to set the proper Controller number to regulate the
Volume / Expression of connected MIDI equipment.
You can select 7: VOL, 11: EXP.
㉑
MESSAGE - DAMPER
This allows you to set which controller to transmit Damper infor-
mation.
OFF:
No transmission.
CTRL1:
Transmits to the controller connected to the CTRL1 jack.
CTRL2:
Transmits to the controller connected to the CTRL2 jack.
ON EXP:
Transmits to the controller connected to the EXP jack.
NOTE: The parameters in these modes are Patch Parameters,
and are recorded to each Patch.
u
SWITCH ON/OFF THE MESSAGES
Some MIDI messages are specific to each Patch while others are
Global messages. The following paragraphs explain this in more
detail.
MIDI messages which can be switched Patch by Patch:
Note On, Note Off, Expression, Damper
MIDI messages which are switched globally:
Bank select, Program change, Volume, Pan (P. 129)

MIDI ALL NOTES OFF AND RESET CONTROL-
LERS
MIDI plays notes from an external instrument by sending two
commands - “Note On” which starts the note playing, and “Note
Off” which releases the note and stops it from playing. These two
commands are always sent in pairs.
Once in a while, a Note Off command may not follow a Note
On command, causing a note or notes to cipher, or sound con-
tinuously (the phenomenon popularly referred to a “stuck notes”).
In this case, you need to send a MIDI command to the receiving
instrument to clear the ciphering notes.
To do this, touch the [
][
q
] Touch Buttons simultaneously.
Doing this will send a “MIDI All Notes Off” as well as a “MIDI
Reset All Controllers” command to the receiving instruments. The
stuck notes will be turned off and the settings for the External
Zones will be reset, then the External Zone settings will be re-sent.
Normal playing can then be resumed.
