PULL OUT THE “B” DRAWBARS
The Drawbars make the fundamental organ sound of this key-
board. The tone changes in relation to how far the Drawbars are
“pulled.”
The volume of each sound is greatest when the Drawbar is pulled
out all the way, and null when fully pushed in. The Drawbars are
arranged so that the pitches go higher from left to right.
For this example, pull the 16´, 5 1/3´ and 8´ Drawbars to “8” (all
the way out).
NOTE: The current registration is displayed in the PLAY Mode.
(P. 37)
ADD “TOUCH-RESPONSE PERCUSSION”
Hammond’s Touch-Response Percussion adds a percussive attack to
the Tone Wheel/Drawbar sounds. The effect is similar to a harp or
bells. Percussion is available only on the Upper Manual and nor-
mally only when the “B” Preset Key is engaged (red LED “ON”).
The four Touch Tabs (from left to right) select Percussion “ON” or
“OFF,” Normal or Soft Volume, Fast or Slow Decay, and Second or
Third Harmonic tone quality.
For this example turn all of the Percussion Touch Tabs )[ON],
[THIRD], [FAST], [SOFT]) “ON” (red LEDs lit).
“UPPER” and “LOWER” MANUALS
The diagram on the left shows the basic traditional configuration of a Hammond Organ.
On tone-wheel Hammond Organs of the “B-3” type, pipe organ terminology was used -
the Upper Manual (Keyboard) was the “Swell,” and the Lower Manual (Keyboard) was the
“Great.” On classical pipe organs having two or more manuals, each manual played a differ-
ent set of pipes, thereby making it possible to change sounds quickly and easily,
The single keyboard of the XK-5 can be played as a two-manual organ by using the SPLIT
feature to divide the keyboard in “half,” with the “Upper” Manual (Keyboard) on the right
side, and the “Lower” Manual (Keyboard) on the left, with different sounds for each. This is
so that a keyboard player can have different sounds immediately available.
NOTE: You can also play the Pedal tones from the manual using the PEDAL TO LOWER
feature.
NOTE: Throughout this Guide, the terms, “UPPER,” “LOWER,” and “PEDALS” will be used for
their respective Manuals or Pedals.
