Fiberglass Off-Gassing
What exactly is off-gassing, and should you be concerned?
Sometimes common building materials, in this case ones used in the fiberglass
manufacturing process, continue to release chemical vapors after the manufacture is
complete. The main chemical in question is formaldehyde. This occurrence is called
off-gassing. Our state-of-the-art fiberglass factory uses the safest, eco-friendly
manufacturing practices in the industry to keep exposure to harmful chemicals to the very
minimum. You may also notice some leftover fiberglass “dust” near the edges of cabinet
openings, etc. for about a week after purchase. This is common to the manufacturing
process and will subside shortly after use.
All fiberglass products must undergo a "curing" process of 30 days before being usable.
Once the fiberglass has cured, the material is stable, and the chances of any off-gassing
occurring are next to none. Your HC1 will have been curing in a well-ventilated area for
30-60 days prior to arriving at our sales lot.
**If you're planning on storing your trailer in a sealed area for an extended period of time,
we recommend airing it out for 24 hours prior to use.
Insulated Weather Barrier
The HC1 features a thin but highly protective layer of insulation wedged between the two
layers of the inner and outer fiberglass hull. The insulation is used in the upper portion of
the trailer along the roof and side walls. There is no layer of insulation in the space where
the windows go, along the upper shelving and around the lower cabinets (to make more
usable space).
