About the MediaDirector 2252B, 2252B-DS, and 2251B
The MediaDirector is the core of the Spectrum system, actively managing the flow of data to and from
other Spectrum components, including the MediaStore 5000 series storage arrays and real-time I/O
modules such as MediaPort 7000, ChannelPort, and Spectrum X.
The MediaDirector 2252B includes 12 connections for I/O modules, as well as 10 Gb Ethernet ports for
file transfers, SAS connections for storage, and EFS connections.
The MediaDirector 2252B-DS includes 18 connections for I/O modules, as well as 10 Gb Ethernet ports
for file transfers, four SAS connections for storage, and support a four-MediaDirector EFS configuration.
The MediaDirector 2251B includes 6 connections for I/0 modules.
The Gigabit Ethernet connectivity is a standard implementation of high speed Ethernet for non-real time
asynchronous file transfer and support of FTP, Samba, and AFP (Apple
®
Filing Protocol) protocols.
CAUTION:
MediaDirectors run on a non-standard Linux operating system. Do not edit
files manually, or run Linux-type commands via the shell unless instructed to do so by
Technical Support, or the product documentation. Be aware that If you manually edit files,
any changes made may be overwritten when daemons restart, the system reboots, or
during system upgrades. Modifying files by hand and/or running Linux-type commands may
seriously impact MediaDirector functionality and performance.
NOTE:
The MediaDirector products do not have user-serviceable parts.
