Introduction
Unlike metallic forming shells (niches), the UCL underwater lighting niches are injection-molded of PVC for superior performance, non-corrosive durabil-
ity and plumbing versatility - plus the lowest installed cost. This unique shallow niche does not require a secondary dig and dedicated rebar light cage
allowing you to save 1/3 yd. of gunite during the building process. In addition, the non-metallic design does not require bonding or grounding and uses
PVC over expensive metal conduit. All of these features enable the UCL underwater lighting niches to offer faster installation time and huge bottom line
savings in material and labor.
This UCL underwater lighting niche is for concrete/gunite pools. When paired with a Hayward Universal ColorLogic
®
or CrystaLogic
TM
LED light fixture,
you have the best quality and value in a lighting system available anywhere. The UCL underwater lighting niche Model LFGUY1000 is furnished with (2)
conduit fittings (reducer and elbow/coupling) to allow for specific installation requirements.
Important Information
1. This UCL underwater lighting niche are Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Listed under Category WBDT. They are C-UL-US Listed for fresh and sea water
and comply with Article 680.23 of the National Electrical Code [NEC].
2. This UCL underwater lighting niche does not contain or require a bonding or a grounding connector. It is designed to exclusively mount the Hayward
all plastic Universal ColorLogic/CrystaLogic LED pool/spa lights. The UL listing for this niche allows it to be used with Hayward’s non-bonded non-
grounded Universal ColorLogic/CrystaLogic low voltage pool/spa lights.
3. This UCL underwater lighting niche model LFGUY1000 is C-UL-US Listed only for use with Hayward Universal ColorLogic/CrystaLogic Submersible
Light Fixture Series LPCUS, LPCUN, LPLUS and LPWUS.
4. All UCL underwater lighting niches must be installed in compliance with Article 680.23 of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other applicable
electrical codes and with any applicable building codes. Article 680 requires that light fixtures be installed with the top of the lighting lens at least 4
inches (10 cm) below the normal water level of the pool or spa.
5. The UCL underwater lighting niches are provided with two (2) Conduit Fittings. A 1”, 45°
sweep elbow and a 1”x ¾” reducer bushing are provided for connection convenience to
PVC conduit. These conduit fittings must be cemented to the niche (forming shell), field
supplied conduit pipe and other conduit fittings using approved PVC primer and cement.
6. All UCL underwater lighting niches are equipped with an internally-threaded connection for
pressure testing of conduit line before installing light. (A solid rubber plug must be used.)
7. When installing the Universal ColorLogic/CrystaLogic light into the niche, use the cord seal to seal the conduit entry. Use the 12 gauge plug (larger
hole) with any model that utilizes a 12 gauge cord and use the 14 gauge plug (smaller hole) with models using a 14 gauge cord. (See page 5 for
cord seal installation).
