B. Firescreen
A firescreen must be used to control sparks if the homeown-
er choses to operate the fireplace with the doors open and
it must remain in place whenever the fireplace will be op-
erating in this manner. Glass doors or firescreens must not
be used to hold burning material inside the fireplace. Only
those glass doors specifically tested and listed for use with
the specific fireplace model should be used.
Use both hands to stabilize the screen. Ensure that the
screen is fully attached. Be careful not to stack wood close
to the front or too high that logs could roll out the front. Start
with a small fire and adjust your heat to desired setting. If
smoke spillage occurs, put on gloves and then remove the
screen and close the doors. Refer to Troubleshooting Draft
Problems on page 18.
