7. OPERATIONAL METHOD
Loading and Unloading The Yard Ramp
If an overhead crane of sufficient capacity is not available, use a forklift with a minimum capacity rating of
4,500 kg to unload the catalogue listed yard ramps. Alternatively, the use of two 2,500kg forklifts may be
used.
To remove a yard ramp from a flatbed truck with two forklifts, position the forklifts directly across from each
other, one on either side of the yard ramp. Slowly and carefully raise the forks of each lift at the same time,
evenly raising the yard ramp above the truck bed.
When adequate clearance is achieved, pull the flatbed truck forward, allowing room to lower the yard ramp
onto the ground. Once on the ground, the yard ramp can be moved using one forklift as outlined below.
Moving
●
Yard Ramps can be moved short distances on-site with the use of a suitable forklift. Always ensure
that you have sufficient operating space, a clear path from the current ramp location and desired
ramp location and use a spotter to assist the forklift operator at all times.
●
If the moving wheels are not fitted to the yard ramp, raise the top end of the yard ramp so that the
feet are 100mm off the ground with a forklift ensuring that you use sufficient stands or blocks to take
the load of the ramp once raised. Remove the feet and replace them with the wheels, ensuring that
the circlips are in place correctly before lowering the ramp back down to the ground. Ensure the
support legs are fully retracted. Using a suitable forklift, place a forklift tyne into the bracket of the
moving point and tighten the lock lever of the moving point bracket until tight. It is advisable to
secure the ramp to the forklift using a suitable chain or strap to ensure the ramp is connected to the
forklift securely. Slowly raise the ramp and begin pushing with the forklift towards the desired
location.
See images at the end of this instruction manual.
●
Once the ramp is at the desired location, lower the ramp and remove the safety chain. Release the
lock lever of the moving point bracket. Raise the top end of the yard ramp so that the wheels are
100mm off the ground with a forklift ensuring that you use sufficient stands or blocks to take the load
of the ramp once raised. Remove the wheels and replace with the feet, ensuring that the bolts are in
place correctly before lowering the ramp back down to the ground.
