1.3 Operating range
The operating range diagram of an oilburner describes the maximum
furnace pressure dependig on the oil mass flow. The range of operation
has been determined on a test boiler in
accordance with DIN EN
267:2011-11 and relates to a height of 100 metres MSL, as well as to a
room temperature of 20ºC. The maximum achievable firing rate depends
on the respective starting resistance of the heating system. This is influ-
enced by the geometry of the heating system and the heat exchanger, as
well as the flue gas system.

Functional description
The HL 60 G/I/K/N/P oil burner is construed as a pre-mixing atomising
burner for operating with EL (extra light) heating oil. The burner motor ope-
rates with a constant engine speed that drives both the fuel pump and
the combustion air fan. The fuel pump performs as a gear pump and pro-
vides a constant mass flow rate of fuel from the suction side to the pres-
sure side. Part of the fuel flows through a solenoid valve, which is located
in the housing of the pump, to the injection nozzle. Another part of the
flow reaches back to the suction side of the pump through a pressure
control valve. The injected mass flow rate of fuel depends on the size of
nozzle and the injection pressure that has been adjusted on the pressure
control valve (5 bar<pi<18 bar). To adjust the air flow to the injected oil
mass flow an air throttle device is provided. The fuel is heated to a tem-
perature of approx. 70°C in an oil heater during the burning process and
before the burner is started each time. Therefore viscosity variations, that
are caused by the quality and temperature of the fuel, are minimized. In
consequenze the accuracy of the fuel metering and the quality of the ato-
mizing process are improved. The fuel spray is ignited using an electric
spark that is created through laying a high voltage between two ignition
electrodes. Subsequently we will go into the function of the individual sub-
systems in more detail.
