7.3.6 Setting the volume of the audible signal
When the receiver is switched on, the volume is set to
“normal”. The volume can be adjusted from “normal” to
“loud” by pressing the audible signal button. Press the
button again to switch the signal off and press it once
more to set the signal to “quiet”.
7.4 Aligning the tool in the direction of inclination
If the laser is used with a preset angle of inclination, it
must be set up correctly in order to ensure that the laser
plane lies parallel to the desired plane of inclination.
NOTE
The collimator on the tool is calibrated to the axis of
inclination of the laser beam. To set the laser to the
desired direction of inclination, follow the instructions
below:
1. Mark a line that lies parallel to the desired direction
of inclination.
2. Set up the laser on this line. Use a plumb line to do
this: Allow the plumb line to hang from the fastening
screw on the tripod.
3. Adjust the tool to the approximate direction of in-
clination. Check that the tool is set up correctly for
entering a positive or negative inclination.
4. Set up a pole or other target at the opposite end of
the line.
5. Using the collimator as a sighting aid, set up the tool
so that the collimator is lined up with the target.
7.5 Setting the angle of inclination
The tool can be used in horizontal or vertical reference
planes by setting the desired inclination values for both
the X and Y-axes.
7.5.1 Using the control panel
1. Press the on/off button.
The tool then begins automatic self-leveling.
2. Press the X/Y-button to activate inclination entry
mode.
An arrow on the right indicates the active axis and
+/- blinks.
Press the X/Y-button repeatedly to alternate
between activation of the X-axis and Y-axis.
3. Press the “up” or “down” arrow buttons to alternate
between positive (+) and negative (-) inclination.
4. Press the “right” or “left” arrow buttons to move the
cursor to the appropriate position.
You can then change the value shown.
5. Press the “up” or “down” arrow buttons to increase
or decrease the value.
6. Enter the other value in the same way.
7. Press the “OK” button to confirm the entry and
complete the operation.
NOTE
After entering the inclination value, it will take
approx. 2 minutes until the tool has adjusted itself
to this inclination and the laser beam starts rotating.
Do not touch the tool during this time as this may
affect the accuracy of the setting.
NOTE
Press and hold the X/Y-button to reset inclin-
ation of the active axis to 0.000%.
7.5.2 Using the remote control unit
1. Follow the steps 1-7 described in section 7.5.1
“Using the control panel”.
2. Press the OK button to complete the transmission. If
the “NG” symbol appears (transmission incomplete),
press the “OK” button again until the “OK” symbol
(transmission complete) is shown.
7.6 Activating / deactivating the virtual beam
shields
13
The laser beam can be switched off at one or more sides
of the PRE 38. This function is useful when more than one
laser tool is in use on a construction site and you wish to
avoid detecting the beam from more than one laser at a
time. The laser plane is divided into four quadrants. These
are shown in the beam shield display and the appropriate
direction can be selected as follows:
7.6.1 Using the control panel
1. Use the “Menu” button to activate the display.
2. Use the arrow buttons to navigate to the beam shield
symbol (at top-left in the display) and press the “OK”
button to confirm your selection.
3. Use the arrow buttons to select the sector in which
the beam shield is to be activated. Press the same
arrow button to move from one sector to another.
The beam shield is not active in the dark shaded
sectors indicated by the symbol.
4. Complete your selection by pressing the “OK” but-
ton.
7.6.2 Using the remote control unit
14
1. Follow the steps 1-4 described in section 7.6.1
“Using the control panel”.
2. Press the OK button to complete the transmission. If
the “NG” symbol appears (transmission incomplete),
press the “OK” button again until the “OK” symbol
(transmission complete) is shown.
NOTE
By following steps 2 and 3, with the aid of the
X/Y-buttons, all sectors can be shifted by 45°.
7.7 Setting the speed of rotation
15
The speed of rotation can be changed by pressing the
arrow buttons and the “OK” button.
7.7.1 Using the control panel
1. Press the “Menu” button to activate the menu.
2. Use the arrow buttons to navigate to the RPM sym-
bol and confirm this selection by pressing the “OK”
button.
3. Select the corresponding speed of rotation by press-
ing the arrow buttons.
4. Press the “OK” button to confirm the speed of
rotation you have set.
