High Definition screen technology
In Plane Switching
In the past, a major drawback to owning an LCD screen was the poor quality of vision when viewed off
centre. Unless you were sitting straight on, you would be plagued with lacklustre colours, poor contrast
and washed out images. To combat this problem, Hitachi developed In Plane Switching (IPS) technology.
This technique employs pairs of electrodes at the sides of each cell which keep the liquid crystals parallel
to the front of the panel. By doing so, it increases the visibility up to 178 degrees in both horizontal and
vertical directions. It also increases the clarity, contrast and defi nition which allows for better images,
even in poorer lighting conditions. So no matter where you are sitting (or standing), you’ll always see
brilliant, true-to-life pictures.
