Connecting the HDC-401EX to the Computer Using the USB Cable

Check to see if the camera power is turned off.
If the camera is still on, press the power switch
to turn off the power.

Plug the larger connector of the USB cable into the USB port on the
computer, and firmly insert the smaller connector into the USB
terminal on the camera.

The HDC-401EX is recognized as a removable disk.
A removable disk is displayed under
My Computer

Press the power switch to turn on the
camera power.

If your HDC-401EX was connected to the
computer for the first time, the New Hardware
wizard is displayed. It will quickly navigate you
through the necessary steps so that the
computer can automatically recognize the HDC-
401EX. Wait for a while until the setting is
completed and the wizard disappears.

If the
New Hardware Search
wizard screen is
displayed, click
Next
and follow the on-screen
instructions.
When the
Search Wizard is Completed
screen
is displayed, click
Finish
.

In Windows XP, the OS

Do not disconnect the USB cable or touch the camera (interface cover, control panel,
shutter button, etc.) while the HDC-401EX is communicating with the computer.
Doing so may damage the stored data.

If your computer is running Windows 98/98SE, you must perform the
procedure specified under
Installing the HDC-401EX Driver in the
Computer
before you can connect your HDC-401EX to the computer.
●
Before connecting the HDC-401EX to the computer, be sure to turn off the
camera power.
●
When connecting the HDC-401EX to the computer, be sure to check the
remaining battery power. Although the Power Off Time function is disabled
while the camera is connected to the computer, the camera will turn off if the
batteries are exhausted. If the camera is turned off while connecting, the
computer may not operate correctly or recorded data may be damaged.
If the camera is to remain connected to the computer for a long period of
time, use of the AC adapter (sold separately) is recommended.
