Ballast and snow chains, where allowed, are effective
ways to increase traction. Clearing deep snow
requires a steady movement of the vehicle.
• Do not stack snow by the road and block the visibility
of vehicles coming or leaving the parking lot.
• DO NOT apply excessive down force to the unit while
clearing. This will considerably shorten the life of your
wear shoes and cutting edge. This is NOT necessary
for proper clearing.
• Throughout the season, ensure drains remain clear
and unobstructed, allowing snow an escape when it
melts and less opportunity to refreeze.
• Use caution when clearing next to parked cars.
• If you are responsible for clearing sidewalks, have
them cleared first so that you can clear the snow
away.
• When clearing snow that is next to a building, push or
pull snow away from the building.
• Clear areas in front of buildings and overhead doors
first. With the blade in the back-drag configuration, pull
the snow away from the building, then push the snow
to the pile area of the lot.
• Push the snowbanks back far enough to
accommodate future snowfalls.
• Identify tight areas that will be hard to maneuver in
and make a plan for clearing those areas.
• As you near the far side of the lot, reduce speed and
raise the blade to prevent scraping turf, as well as to
help stack the snow.
• Install the
HLA Snow optional rubber cutting edge
if the surface you are clearing should be protected
(stamped concrete, interlocking pavers, etc) general
residential clearing. May also be used in mild climates
where wet snow is present to help remove underlying
moisture and slush.
• Add markers to the snow blade for visibility and
to help identify blade position.
HLA Snow blade
markers (SBM27)
are available.
•
Plow snow during low-traffic hours and always be
cautious of cars and people in the lot.
• Plowing large paved or cement parking lots and
runways exposes your equipment to heavy use. If you
are experiencing short wear life on the cutting edges
you may want to consider switching to
HLA Carbide
tipped cutting edges
.

CAUTION
Operational Hazard
Caution: do not roll the blade too far forward to
put excessive force on the front of the blade,
which will lead to premature wear on the
cutting edge and possible damage to clearing
surface.
