Stripe Hog Systems
OMSI Drive Oil Cooler with Thermostatically Controlled Fan
and In-Line Filter
2.5 Fluid Cooler Placement
The SH5500 is equipped with coolers for the en-
gine, transmission, drive train components and
hydraulic system. The coolers are located in front
of the radiator in the engine compartment, in sev-
eral locations on the chassis, on special brackets
located behind the cab near the high pressure
pump, on top of the vacuum filter canister, inside
the vacuum filter canister and in the clean water
tank.
The compact size of the SH5500 has made it the
second most popular waterblasting Unit we pro-
duce. It is great for small jobs, easy transporta-
tion, under the Federal CDL qualifications, and
very efficient. Because it is so compact a special
consideration must be made in its design to re-
move the heat. This is done amazingly well using
5 uniquely designed coolers. The main sources of
heat are the high horsepower Ford diesel engine,
the Ford manual transmission, the OMSI Gearbox,
and the Hydraulic Pumps. This incredibly efficient
package maintains the respective components
at their optimum temperatures to ensure their
normal service life.
The following is the name of the coolers, their
function and location.
1. Heat Exchanger (some models)
a. This unit uses the cool water in the Clean
Water Tank to remove the heat from the
Engine Coolant without mixing them. It is a
rectangular shaped, plate style cooler that
is located in the front of the truck, behind
the bumper.
2. Hog head hydraulic Coil Cooler
a. This cooler wraps around the outside pe-
rimeter of the Vacuum Filter inside the
Vacuum canister. It takes advantage of the
moist air and rapid movement to remove
vast amounts of heat from the Hydraulic
Fluid.
3. The OMSI gearbox Cooler
a. This Unit has its own thermally controlled
fan and is located on top of the vacuum
canister behind the Cab on the passenger
side. The OMSI transmission in this chas-
sis has been up-fitted by the manufacturer
with a circulation pump to provide the oil
flow necessary.
