Tyre Placard
The tyre placard may display the
tyre size and pressures using the
following icons:
p
:
Tyre size, minimum load rating,
minimum speed rating.
j
:
Tyre pressure at normal load.
k
:
Tyre pressure for fuel
economy driving at normal load.
i
:
Tyre pressure at
maximum load.
o
:
Spare tyre pressures.
The correct pressures for tyres are
shown on the tyre placard in the
driver's door opening (B-pillar) and
in the tyre pressure table.
The front tyre pressures are shown
in the left column and the rear tyre
pressures are shown in the right
column.
When to Check
Check the tyres once a month
or more.
Do not forget the spare tyre,
if the vehicle has one.
How to Check
Use a good quality pocket-type
gauge to check tyre pressure.
Proper tyre inflation cannot be
determined by looking at the
tyre. Check the tyre inflation
pressure when the tyres are
cold, meaning the vehicle has
not been driven for at least three
hours or no more than 2.0 km.
Remove the valve cap from the
tyre valve stem. Press the tyre
gauge firmly onto the valve to
get a pressure measurement.
If the cold tyre inflation pressure
matches the recommended
pressure on the Tyre and
Loading Information label, no
further adjustment is necessary.
If the inflation pressure is low,
add air until the recommended
pressure is reached. If the
inflation pressure is high, press
on the metal stem in the centre
of the tyre valve to release air.
Re-check the tyre pressure with
the tyre gauge.
Return the valve caps on the
valve stems to prevent leaks
and keep out dirt and moisture.
Tyre Inspection
We recommend that the tyres,
including the spare tyre, if the
vehicle has one, be inspected
for signs of wear or damage at
least once a month.
Replace the tyre if:
.
The indicators at three or
more places around the tyre
can be seen.
.
There is cord or fabric
showing through the tyre's
rubber.
