4. REAR SHIELD
During normal use, the rear shield is subject to
deterioration and wear. Remove the grass bag and
raise the discharge guard. Check the rear shield for
cracks or tears. If the rear shield is worn, replace it

5. BLADES
INSPECTION
1. Turn the fuel valve to the OFF position. This will
reduce the possibility of fuel leakage when the
mower is tilted.
2. Disconnect the spark plug cap.
3. Tilt the mower on its right side, so the
carburetor is up.
4. Inspect the blades for damage, cracks, and
excessive wear, rust, or corrosion.
5. Verify the blade bolts are tight.
TORQUE: 49 ~ 59 N•m (36 ~ 43 ft-lb)
6. If the blades are bent or severely damaged,
check the crankshaft runout (
7. Dull blades can be sharpened, but blades that
are worn out, bent, cracked, or otherwise
damaged must be replaced.
