ENGINE WILL NOT START

Fuel valve is OFF Turn the fuel valve ON (page 8)
Throttle lever is in the wrong position
Move the throttle lever to the CHOKE
position, unless the engine is warm (page 19)
Flywheel brake lever is not engaged Engage the flywheel brake lever (page 21)
Out of fuel Refuel (page 46)
Bad fuel; mower stored without treating or
draining gasoline, or refueled with bad
gasoline.
Drain the fuel tank and carburetor (page 51).
Refuel with fresh gasoline (page 46).
Spark plug is faulty, fouled, or improperly
gapped
Gap or replace the spark plug (page 39)
Spark plug is wet with fuel (flooded engine) Dry and reinstall the spark plug

Fuel filter is clogged, carburetor malfunction,
ignition malfunction, valves stuck, etc.
Take the mower to an authorized Honda
service dealer for repair

Grass is too tall or wet
Raise the cutting height (page 10), cut a
narrower swath (page 26), use a slower
ground speed (page 26), cut more frequently
when the grass is dry, or move the
Clip Director® knob toward the BAG position
(page 14).
Mower deck is clogged Clear out the mower deck (page 27)
Air filter is clogged Clean or replace the air filter (page 38)
Bad fuel; mower stored without treating or
draining the gasoline, or refueled with bad
gasoline.
Drain the fuel tank and carburetor (page 51).
Refuel with fresh gasoline (page 46).
