5.2.4.3. Limit
switches
A limit switch is located at each end of the upper beam, near the sheet edge.
The motion controller is typically set to reverse the direction of the heads
before they reach either switch. If the heads pass by a limit switch, magnets
on the head carriage activate the switch. The switch then signals the Frame
Controller Termination Board in the PMP (4022-31, 4022-40) or the QSIB
Termination Board in the MXOpen Quality Manager (4022-30). In response,
the motor controller drive signals are disabled, but only in the direction it
was being driven. A reversal of drive signals, either in Scan mode or in
Manual mode, will bring the heads back inside the area between the limit
switches. If the server indicates that the scanner has stalled, the PMP or
MXOpen system should be restarted to bring the heads back to the offsheet
position.
5.2.4.4. Crash
switches
A crash switch is located at each end of the scanner along the upper beam (a
total of two crash switches per scanner). They serve as safety devices to
protect the heads (and also the field personnel) if they fail to turn around
before reaching the end of the track.
If the head carriage strikes the rod and spring at the end of the crash switch,
the switch will cut off power to the motor controller. Either the Da Vinci or
MXOpen operator station should indicate that a crash has occurred. The
operator must push the
OFFSHEET
button on the scanner after the heads
have been manually repositioned inside the area between the limit switches.
The crash switches also limit the minimum distance between the heads and
both scanner end supports. This space is required to prevent field personnel
from being injured at the end supports by the traversing heads.
W
ARNING
:
If outboard sensors or extended sheet guides are installed, the
crash and limit switches must be moved to maintain the 355.6 mm
(14.00 in) minimum distance between the end supports and
outboard items. If this space cannot be maintained, then provision
to restrict access must be used.
1.
Move the heads so that there is minimum 355.6 mm (14.0 in) between
the outboard most items on the head carriage and the end support (or
any mill machinery or threading ropes).
