Precision Platform 4022 Scanner
Ensuring radiation safety
WARNING
:
Because separating the sensor heads could put personnel at risk of
exposure to the unshielded radiation beam, it is essential that you
follow the Radiation Safety Procedures for head separation given
in the Radiation Safety Training Manual p/n 6510020199.
Radiation safety regulations in most countries require that the separation
of source and receiver heads of sensors that use radioactive sources be
performed only by persons who are specifically authorized to do such
work under the terms of a Radioactive Materials License.
The Precision Platform 4022-40 Wire Calender Scanner does not have a
pneumatic head separation clutch in order to separate the heads. Instead,
the upper head must be disconnected from the upper drive belt in order to
separate the heads. Authorized personnel should ensure that the radiation
sources are in the shutter-closed position (see the instructions in the
Radiation Safety Training Manual). Use this procedure to separate the
sensor heads.
WARNING
:
To perform any maintenance, troubleshooting, or replacement of
components, ensure that power is disabled at the breaker.
1.
Scan the heads offsheet and turn off the Motor Power keyswitch.
2.
Remove the 3/8"-16 belt support bracket adjustment bolt from the
upper carriage belt support bracket shown in Figure 7-2.
3.
Separate the adjustment plate from the belt support bracket in
order to disconnect the upper head from the upper drive belt.
There is a microswitch present on the belt support bracket that is
part of the radiation safety interlock system for head separation.
This switch will become disengaged with the separation of the
adjustment plate from the belt support bracket.
4.
Check to ensure that the green "All Closed" light is on at the
Radiation Light Satellite boxes.
5.
Manually pull the upper head to the side to separate it from the
lower head.
