Precision Platform 4022 Scanner
Installation
4.
Use a 3 or 4-ft (1m) vertical level to take level measurements against
the sides of the upper and lower fiberglass tracks (offset spacers will be
required to do this). Level the scanner with shims supplied in the
installation kit as necessary. Use the crane to slightly lift the scanner so
that the leveling shims can be slid into place around the mounting
bolts and under the expansion joint. Lower the scanner onto the
pedestal and allow the full weight to rest on the pedestal before
checking for level. Alternately, jacking bolts can be used if present in
the mounting pedestals to gain clearance for shims. Do not slack the
crane cables as they will prevent the scanner from falling. Recheck for
level and add shims as necessary.
Make sure the string is centered in the head gap at both ends and
across the full width of the scanner. Also adjust the head angle to
match the angle of the string. This is done by loosening the three bolts
at each head angle adjustment arc. Use the provided gap spacer bars to
ensure the two heads are parallel.
5.
When the head angle is set and the scanner is leveled, tighten the bolts
holding the scanner to the mounting pedestals to 50 ft-lbs of torque.
The bolts should not be so tight as to prevent the expansion joint from
functioning.
6.
Remove the shipping bolts to allow the expansion joint to function.

C
AUTION
:
Ensure that the two ¼” – 20 shipping bolts are
removed from the distant end support for
proper operation.
7.
Once the bolts are tight, recheck for level. Release the scanner from the
crane and remove and store the eyebolts for later use.
8.
Replace the beam covers.
3.6.1. Preparing the expansion joint
The expansion joint, as shown in Figure 3-2, is the Precision Platform’s
device for absorbing the differentials in horizontal expansion and
contraction between the scanner and the floor to which it is bolted. The
expansion joint is located at the distant end of the scanner and consists of
a nylon bearing plate, an aluminum backing plate, and a steel bushing and
