4.6. Checking sensor stability
System testing is completed by performing the following procedures to
check sensor stability and calibration, to determine calibration constants
for new product codes, and to compare onsheet sensor readings with lab
measurements of sheet samples:
•
Check sensor stability using the procedures provided in the sensor
manuals. Ensure that the stability readings meet the specifications.
•
Perform static calibration verification to ensure that sensors and
system software perform correctly. This procedure is performed
routinely before system shipment. It must be performed again
during installation and on a routine basis following installation to
ensure correct system operation and to provide a data history of
sensor accuracy.
•
Set up a sample paddle and perform sample operations to produce
measurements that can be compared with laboratory
measurements to ensure that sensors are stable and calibration is
accurate.
4.6.1. Stability and verification procedures
Verify these conditions before sensor stability testing is begun:
•
Head temperatures are between 38 – 49°C (100°F - 120°F)
•
Head temperatures are stable to ±1°C (±2°F)
•
Alignment pins drop easily
•
The gap bar verifies the correct gap
After these conditions have been verified, perform these tasks:
1.
Set sample/reference read times on the general setup display:
a.
Enter the number of seconds for basis weight and ash
sensors (four seconds recommended).
