10. Functional description
kaltec
Cool provides a completely new water treatment concept for combating limescale and
corrosion. In contrast with previous water treatment devices, the hardness-generating
elements in the water are not removed – the
kaltec
Cool replaces calcium which can be
deposited and cause problems with trouble-free magnesium – and the water hardness remains
unchanged. Because many people take in less than the recommended quantities of
magnesium, a slight increase in the magnesium content of water is a welcome side effect.
kaltec
Cool also offers some environmental and economic advantages. Magnesium and water
consumption lies well below the average for other devices. This fulfils the requirements of the
strictest standards and guidelines regarding consumption values and thereby protects the
environment.
The device can be used in three different modes:
In the
Wellness Mode
with mid-range magnesium exchange rate, in the
Cleaning Mode
with
higher magnesium exchange (adjustable) as well as in the
Soft-Water Mode
(with accessories
separately available).
In the
Wellness Mode
approximately half of the calcium in the water is exchanged with
magnesium and this effectively suppresses corrosion and the build-up of new deposits.
In the
Cleaning Mode
for existing systems, practically all the calcium in the potable water can
be replaced by magnesium, whereby existing, predominantly calcium-based deposits in the
pipework are dissolved and replaced by a compact protective layer of magnesium. The
consumption of magnesium salt VC51-A during the cleaning process is approximately double
of the Wellness Mode so that when cleaning is completed the unit should be reset to the
Wellness Mode. In both Wellness and Cleaning Modes the hardness of the potable water
remains unchanged.
The hardness is only altered in the
Soft-Water Mode
, when the device is operated like a
conventional ion-exchange unit using traditional sodium salts instead of magnesium VC51-A,
thereby softening the water.

9.2 Cleaning Mode
This operating mode with increased magnesium consumption should be selected for only a
specified period of time to clear existing deposits from old systems.
•
In order to activate the Cleaning Mode screw in the setting screw 1 counterclockwise.
Do not overturn!
Depending on the degree of scaling in the pipework the Cleaning Mode should be retained for
approx. 3 to 6 months.
•
During that time approx. twice as much magnesium will be consumed compared to the
normal wellness operation due to frequent regenerations.
For this reason pay special attention on the magnesium level in the container while
running in Cleaning Mode.
•
During Cleaning Mode scale deposits which have become detached from the pipework
walls may appear on the outlets.
9. Further settings
For the magnesium operation you can select between Wellness Mode (9.1) and Cleaning Mode
(9.2). Further you are free to choose any setting between these two modes to get the result
which meets your requirements best within a minimum of magnesium consumption. The soft
water mode is provided for softening applications. This requires an expansion of the device
using the conversion kit AU52-A (see separate Operating Instructions).
9.1 Wellness Mode (recommended)
This operating mode stands out due to favorable consumption of magnesium and water and is,
therefore, preferred for permanent setting.
•
In order to activate the Wellness Mode, turn in the setting screw 1 counterclockwise and
then turn out the setting screw until the pointer points at the marking.
Do not overturn!
1
Please note that for Wellness and Cleaning
Modes the water hardness remains unaltered
and therefore washing machines and
dishwashers should be operated as before,
that is with the same quantities of washing,
rinsing and softening materials as before.
Even in Wellness Mode some removal of
deposits may occur and in the initial period
this may lead to some detached particles of
scale appearing on the outlets.
