Product Description
The NXS is an ultra-compact, 24Vdc-powered, industrial PC platform, designed for DIN rail mounting. It provides
integral control, supervision, and network management solutions for wide variety of networked field devices. The
fanless design of the NXS incorporates an Intel
®
650 Mhz Celeron
®
processor and 512MB of system RAM. The OS
is Microsoft
®
Windows
®
XP Embedded, using either 1GB CompactFlash or a 40GB hard drive for storage (depending
on model).
The NXS uses DIN-mountable modules for power and UPS backup—refer to

Although the normal operating mode for a NXS is “headless,” an onboard DVI/VGA port supports connection to a
CRT or LCD monitor (providing it has a DVI interface). A local console also requires connection of a USB-type
keyboard and mouse to the NXS USB ports.
Windows Notes
Regardless of NXS model, Windows “XP Embedded” is pre-installed on CompactFlash (W-NXS-AX-FL and CP-NXS-
AX-FL) or a hard drive (WEB-NXS-R2, W-NXS-AX-HD and CP-NXS-AX-HD ). No Windows CD is included. However,
a “Certificate of Authenticity” sticker is attached near the model number label.
Windows XP Embedded supports a “local desktop environment,” meaning the attachment of a keyboard, mouse, and
monitor. However, typical Windows access is done using a Microsoft “Remote Desktop” client connection to the unit,
as all models of NXS are factory-configured to support this. For related details, see
