To connect to the Server ControlNet Interface module for the PC
1. If you are implementing:
l
a non-redundant ControlNet media, go to Step 2
l
a redundant ControlNet media, skip Step 2 and go to Step 3
2. To connect non-redundant (single-media) ControlNet configuration, connect your drop-cable to the
ControlNet A BNC connector on the PCIC card in the computer.
3. To connect redundant (dual-media) ControlNet configuration, connect your drop-cable from the-
l
“A” ControlNet tap to the ControlNet “A” BNC connector on the PCIC card in the computer, and
l
“B” ControlNet tap to the ControlNet “B” BNC connector on the PCIC card in the computer.
In both redundant and non-redundant ControlNet configurations, do not mix A and B connections.
Follow established conventions and standards for identifying drop-cables as described in the
Planning Guide, ControlNet Configuration, Planning Your Taps, Planning for drop-cable
identification.
7.3.7
Connecting Tap Dummy Loads
CAUTION
A Tap Dummy Load is not permitted to be used as a trunk termination on a trunk port of a tap.
Trunk terminators have 75 Ohm impedance. Tap Dummy Loads are higher impedance than trunk
terminators and are only designed to terminate drop cables. Refer to
Terminating cable
segmentsfor instructions on terminating cable segments.
