Tightening Wheel Hardware
Torque wheel hardware using the following procedure:
IMPORTANT: Wheel bolts must be clean and oil free when torqueing. Torque values
specified in the following steps are for clean, dry wheel bolts. Lubricating oil reduces
friction and thread bite to overload bolts.
Initial Wheel Bolt Torque
Use the tightening sequence shown in the picture attached. Tighten wheel bolts and lug nuts in
a crisscross pattern to evenly pull the wheel tight to the hub.
•
Caster Wheel Bolts – 150 lbs./ft.
•
Packer Wheel Bolts – 100 lbs./ft.
Final Wheel Bolt Torque
IMPORTANT: Using hand tools and a torque wrench is required. To achieve high torque
results, final torqueing must be done with the tire on the ground.
Checking Wheel Attaching Hardware and Bearings
Check the tightness of all wheel hardware and wheel bearings during the first week of operation,
and every 200 hours thereafter. The spindle nut must be torqued to 65 lbs./ft. Be sure the cotter
pin is reinstalled.
To adjust wheel bearings, remove the center wheel cap. Remove the cotter pin. Raise the wheel
and turn. Tighten the nut until the wheel has just a slight bit of drag on the bearing. Back off the
nut until the next slot of the castle nut lines up with the hole of the spindle. This should be close
to 65 lbs./ft. of torque. Insert the cotter pin. Grease the hub bearing once every 200 hours with
just a few (2-3) pumps of grease. Do NOT over grease! Replace the wheel center cap.
Lubricants and Hydraulic Oil
The hydraulic fluid from the tractor is mixed with the hydraulic fluid from the machine.
The grease points of the seeder can be greased with multi-grade lubricating grease.
Perform Lubrication and Maintenance procedures.
Do not clean, lubricate or adjust machine while in motion.
