Configuring the ICMP echo operation
The ICMP echo operation measures the reachability of a destination device. It has the same function as
the
ping
command, but provides more output information. In addition, if multiple paths exist between the
source and destination devices, you can specify the next hop for the ICMP echo operation.
The ICMP echo operation is not supported in IPv6 networks. To test the reachability of an IPv6 address,
use the
ping ipv6
command. For more information about the command, see
Network Management and
Monitoring Command Reference.
To configure the ICMP echo operation:

Otherwise, no probe packets
can be sent out.
