Verifying Presence of UGUY and Cells
To perform this activity, you can either connect to the Guardian Service Processor (GSP) over the customer
console or connect your CE tool (laptop) to the RS-232 Local port on the GSP.
After you login to the GSP, verify whether the GSP detects the presence of the UGUY and all cells installed in
the cabinet. The UGUY is the name given to the combined Clock and Utilities Board (CLU) and the Power
Monitor 3 (PM3), a device that monitors 48V power distribution and environmental conditions in the cabinet.
It is important for the GSP to detect the UGUY and the cells. If it does not, the partitions will not boot.
You may have a mix of Landshark (original 500-Mhz Superdome cell boards) and Caribe (faster processors)
cell boards in a Superdome cabinet as shown in Figure 4-1. But you may not mix cell boards within a
partition.

Mixed Cell Boards
WARNING
Do not mix original cell or Caribe cell boards with within the same partition.
WARNING
Do not mix CPU ASICs (PA8600 vs. PA8700) on either the original or Caribe cell
boards.
To determine if the GSP detects the UGUY and cells:
Step 1. At the GSP prompt, enter
cm
.
This displays the Command Menu. Among other things, the Command Menu allows you to view or
modify the configuration and/or look at utilities controlled by the GSP.
