272 Chapter 20 Long-term shutdown
ENWW
Long-term shutdown
When the press system is inactive for four days or more, ink waste and dried ink can
accumulate in the ink flow system. If the press is going to be inactive, you must first clean
and flush the ink flow system.
Use the following procedure when you need to shut down the press system for four days
or more.
WARNING!
Electrical and mechanical hazard: Before performing these steps, press an
Emergency Stop
button.
1
Drain ink from the ink tanks into a clean container. See ‘Draining the ink tank’ on page
101. Store this container for after shutdown.
2
Remove the ink pump. Clean the pump and the filter. See ‘Cleaning the ink pump’ on
page 109.
3
Remove each ink container by pressing two front pin-latches. Lower the container and
pull it towards you to lift it out of its back-slot. Disconnect the two water pipes between
the tank and the ink cabinet.
4
Clean the ink tanks and reinstall them.
5
Install the pumps.
6
Refill the ink tanks with 3.8 liters of imaging oil. Do not rebuild ink.
7
For BID maintenance prior to a long-term press shutdown, see ‘Press long-term
shutdown maintenance’ on page 238.
8
Shut down the system as usual.
Initializing after a long-term shutdown
After a long-term shutdown, replace the ink stored before shutdown or rebuild a new ink.
1
Remove the BID units, and clean them with clean, lint-free wipes soaked in imaging
oil.
2
Remove the imaging oil from the ink tanks.
3
If the ink stored before shutdown is still usable, fill the tank with it.
4
Rebuild the ink in the ink tanks from clean imaging oil and new ink concentrate cans.
5
Initialize the press system as usual.
