70 Chapter 6 Operating the press
ENWW
Consumables Overview
The press keeps printing as long as it remains within the predefined temperature ranges
for each subsystems, ink concentration in the ink tank (ink density), ink and imaging oil
levels, and so on. For the most part, the system automatically makes sure the press is
within the temperature ranges; however, some operator intervention is necessary. You are
prompted whenever the system cannot readjust itself.
Note
The following sections describe frequent procedures to help you understand each mechanism.
The sections are arranged in order of their frequency of occurrence.
Ink replenishment
HP Indigo ElectroInk is a patented liquid ink composed of a suspension of imaging oil and
solid pigment particles. The concentration of the ink (ink density) decreases as part of the
pigment adheres to the printed substrate. The system adds solid pigment to the ink tank
automatically whenever pigment concentration drops below the desired level. The
concentrated ink is pumped from the ink can to the ink tank. A pop-up message will
appear when the can is empty. To remove a can, pull it up and out. Insert a new can by
pushing it up and in.
Imaging oil replenishment
Imaging oil serves as a carrier for the pigment. It does not adhere to the printed substrate,
but evaporates and is replenished automatically. The imaging oil tank must be refilled
when empty. When prompted, pour imaging oil directly into the imaging oil reservoir,
which distributes it between the different ink tanks.
