Using APPWT on an HPE Integrity MC990 X
Server

The HPE Integrity MC990 X Server uses Average Peak Performance in Weighted Teraflops (APPWT) for
export compliance. The system performance, calculated at boot time, must be lower than the allowed
value which is either defined by a firmware default (1.5 WT with RMC versions prior to 1.2.1 or 16 WT
with RMC version 1.2.1 or later) or an installed APPWT key. Otherwise, the system will fail to boot with
the following BIOS boot message:

Calculated APPWT > System APPWT. BIOS boot failed.

For systems with three chassis, the calculated value is above 1.5 WT: either an APPWT key must be
requested and installed, or RMC version 1.2.1 (firmware 2018.03) or later must be installed.

NOTE:

After an APPWT key is installed, its value remains effective across firmware updates. However it

may be reset to the firmware default by removing the file /etc/sysconfig/appwt.cfg from the RMC. You can
check that the system allowed value by running "

auth -a

".

Getting an APPWT key

To request an APPWT key, gather the following information and send an email to
appwtkeyrequest@hpe.com or call the HPE Call Center.

Required information:

• System type (HPE Integrity MC990 X Server)

• Country where the system is being installed

• SFDC case number

• The serial number of the RMC

For example, the serial number of the following RMC is RWN430:

harp27-rmc RMC:r001i21c>

serial

 RMC: 030_2940_001 RWN430

• The number of cores in the system

NOTE:

The number of cores is different from the socket and hyperthread counts.

For example, the following system has 96 (24x4) cores:

harp6-rmc RMC:r001i01c>

bmc serial | grep Socket

Socket 0: 2.20GHz 24c 60MB 9.60QPI [QKT3] Stepping 1

Socket 1: 2.20GHz 24c 60MB 9.60QPI [QKT3] Stepping 1

Socket 2: 2.20GHz 24c 60MB 9.60QPI [QKT3] Stepping 1

Socket 3: 2.20GHz 24c 60MB 9.60QPI [QKT3] Stepping 1

• The speed of the fastest core (in GHz)

• The CPU technology used in the system (Sandybridge/Ivybridge or Haswell/Broadwell)

• The activity the key is needed for: Is this request for a new install or an upgrade?
