To understand usage modes
There are two modes of use for the OmniBook:
•
Desktop mode.
•
Instant On/Off mode.
Desktop Mode
In the Desktop mode, you use your portable like a desktop that you can pick up and
take with you. When you need to change hardware (plug in a PC card), or take
your portable somewhere else, you shut down Windows NT, then press Ctrl-Alt-Blue
button to completely turn off the computer. After adding a PC card or relocating,
reboot Windows NT. This allows NT to synchronize it's time with the hardware
clock and allocate resources for new cards during it's boot up process.
Instant On/Off Mode
This mode works well with NT as long as you keep in mind NT's limitations. After
resuming from the Suspend state, you will not be able to use the PC card devices
until you reboot. Also, the OmniBook’s clock will be incorrect until you manually
change it or reboot. When adding or removing cards you should power down,
change the card, then reboot.
