Deploying the HP 501
Connecting a wired device using MAC address
cloning
In this scenario, the HP 501 makes a wired printer available to clients on the upstream wireless
network. Prior to this deployment, the printer’s MAC address was known by users from its
previous placement on a wired network. Although it is now available through a wireless
connection, it is preferable for the wireless clients to continue accessing the printer using the
MAC address, so that they do not need to change any settings. The MAC address cloning
feature on the HP 501 is used to preserve the printer’s network identity. With MAC address
cloning, the HP 501 assigns the printer's MAC address to the HP 501 wireless port, making the
HP 501 appear to be the printer on the upstream wireless network.
