ProCurve Secure Access 700wl Series Installation and Getting Started Guide
Network Setup
Note:
You cannot set the time zone or NTP server in the same operation as manually setting
the time.
Note:
If you are using NTP to get the date and time, the underlying GMT/UTC time difference
between the Access Control Server and its associated Access Controller Modules should be
less than 900 seconds for the clocks to be synchronized. A variance in (GMT/UTC) time
between the Access Control Server and the Access Controller Module clocks greater than 900
seconds generally cannot be synchronized by NTP without rebooting the Access Controller
Module. Having Access Controller Module and Access Control Server clocks start off with a
high initial variance is not recommended.
There may be a delay of several minutes before all 700wl Series system units are initially
synchronized.
This completes the basic configuration of an Access Control Server. You can now configure Access
Controller Modules to communicate with this Access Control Server using the IP address and shared
secret set in the previous steps.
To complete the configuration of the 700wl Series system, you will need to configure other settings such
as advanced network features, session logging, SNMP management, the HTTP proxy feature, wireless
data privacy settings, and set up authentication and access policies for client network access.
See the
ProCurve Secure Access 700wl Series Management and Configuration Guide
for detailed information on
the features of the Administrative Console.
Access Controller Module Setup
Configuration of an Access Controller Module is done primarily through the Administrative Console
running on the Access Control Server. However, in order for an Access Controller Module to be
recognized by the Access Control Server, the Access Controller Module must be configured with the
Access Control Server’s IP address and shared secret. Until this is done, the Access Control Server and
Access Controller Module will not be able to communicate. Therefore, the initial configuration must be
done through the CLI, as explained in the
ProCurve Series 5300xl Switches Installation and Getting Started
Guide
. Because an Access Controller Module does not provide its own browser-based Administrative
Console, it is managed through the Access Control Server.
IP Addressing Considerations
An Access Controller Module requires a stable IP address so that the Access Control Server can readily
identify and communicate with it. Set up a static IP address for an Access Controller Module using the
CLI, as explained in the
ProCurve Series 5300xl Switches Installation and Getting Started Guide
. A static IP
address must be reconfigured after a factory reset.
To install an Access Controller Module onto a network, you need the information shown in Table 3-2.
