Spooler Device Attributes
Spooler Device Attributes
Spooler device attributes specify printing options for devices (in this case Xerox
printers). Device attribute information is specified with the Spoolcom DEV command.
For a complete listing of the Spooler device attributes supported by all the FASTP
network print processes, see
Table 2-3, Spooler Device Attributes and Their Effect on
FASTP Network Printers,
on page 2-7.
Table 7-1
lists the Spooler device attributes that have special considerations for
FASTPXNS and describes their effect on Xerox printers.

Attribute
Effect on Xerox Printers
EXCLUSIVE
If specified as ON, the Spooler supervisor notifies the FASTPXNS
print process to keep the device open even when the jobs are not
queued for printing.
For Xerox 4050 devices, you should configure at least one
printer on each LAN as EXCLUSIVE. Failure to have at least
one Xerox printer configured as EXCLUSIVE ON results in the
following message appearing at regular intervals in the EMS
log:
1 Ldev nnn #mm Inbound Ag SDU Not
Delivered Over Last 3 Min. Port Name: <name>
DN: #n
These messages only appear when the printer is idle.
By keeping a READ posted on the TLAM/PAM port, FASTPXNS will
absorb LAN broadcasts.
HEADER
ON and OFF values have the same effect as for any other Spooler
printer.
BATCH value - In common with other cut sheet printers, such as the
5577, Xerox 4050 printers do not print the rows of asterisks (*) that
would normally span the perforation
.
PARM
Setting bit 2 (%20000) instructs FASTPXNS to report Xerox status
messages before printing each job. Recommended setting for initial
installation. If bit 2 is not set, FASTPXNS reports Xerox status
messages only if the status is likely to affect the subsequent delivery
of the job.
