136 Servicing & Upgrading
5
Remove the battery from the controller. See
"Removing an Array Controller
Battery" on page 117
.
6
Wait two minutes, and then add or replace the DIMMs. See
"Installing an
Array Controller DIMM" on page 120
.
7
Reinstall the battery on the controller. See
"Installing an Array Controller
Battery" on page 118
.
8
Reinstall the controller. See
"Installing an Array Controller" on page 110
.
9
Repeat steps 4 - 8 for the other controller.
10
Power on the array and wait for all components to become ready.
11
On all hosts accessing the array, rescan for disks and remount all volumes
on the array

Valid Array Controller DIMM Configurations
Reducing the Size of Cache Memory
Caution
Reduction of cache memory requires that the entire array be
reformatted. This erases all LUNs and all data on the array will
be lost. Ensure all critical data on the array is backed up before
reducing the amount of cache memory.
The reduction of cache memory will cause a loss of the maps. Do
not attempt to use the
armrecover
command to restore the
maps in this situation. The maps must be rebuilt after the array is
formatted.
If it is necessary to reduce the amount of cache on each controller, DIMMS can
be removed from both controllers. Because the amount of memory is being
reduced, the existing maps cannot be used. The loss of the maps will require a
complete reformatting of the array. This will destroy all data on the array.
