5 Data protection
The Data protection window allows for the following:
•
Select how data protection is configured, using local disk-to-disk (Local D2D) and/or Alternate
Location Backup (D2Any) of an Exchange storage group, SQL Server database, user-defined
application, or shared folder.

Select a media rotation type for backups or run a backup of an Exchange storage group, SQL
Server database, user-defined application, or shared folder. See

•
Create a snapshot schedule, take a snapshot, or delete a snapshot of an Exchange storage group,
SQL Server database, user-defined application, or shared folder. See

View the contents of a snapshot by exposing it. See “

NOTE:
Backups and snapshots are disabled in ASM for an Exchange storage group or an SQL Server database
if not all the components of the Exchange storage group or SQL Server database are hosted. To host
components not yet hosted for a storage group or database, start the Host an Exchange Storage Group
Wizard or Host a SQL Server Database Wizard as appropriate, select the storage group or database,
and then select the components on the
Select components to host
page that are not yet hosted.
Data Protection Window
In the Data Properties window, you are able to select data protection features, modify advanced
properties, and manage backups and snapshots.
Selecting local or alternate backup
You are able to select
Local Disk Backup
or
Alternate Location Backup
. Local Disk backup saves
pervious version of data on disks, while Alternate Location Backup copies data to tape, other disks
or other types of storage media.
