To use the protecting function of THP V-VOL, following must be satisfied:
•
Data Retention must be installed.
•
Pool types must be Thin Provisioning or Smart Tiers which is the multi tier pool.
When the access attribute of the volume is changed to Protect by the protecting function of THP
V-VOL then the protecting function of THP V-VOL is disabled, the access attribute is still the Protect
attribute. For details about changing the access attribute other than Protect, see
Even if Data Retention is uninstalled, settings by the protecting function of THP V-VOL to pools are
kept. When Data Retention is installed again, settings before the uninstallation are incorporated
in pools.
Creating V-VOLs
The Storage Administrator (Provisioning) role is required to perform this task.
1.
You can create LDEVs from the following tab windows:
•
The
LDEVs
tab, which appears when
Logical Devices
is selected.
•
The
Pools
tab, which appears when
Pools
is selected.
•
The
Virtual Volumes
tab, which appears when a pool in
Pools
is selected.
2.
Click
Create LDEVs
.
The
Create LDEVs
window appears.
3.
From the
Provisioning Type
list, confirm
Thin Provisioning
is selected.
If not, select
Thin Provisioning
from the list.
4.
In the
System Type
option, select a system type.
To create open system volumes, select
Open
.
5.
From the
Emulation Type
list, confirm
OPEN-V
is selected.
6.
From the
Smart Pool
field, select
Enable
when you create the V-VOL for Smart Tiers, and select
Disable
when you do not create one.
If no pool is set to
Enable
in Smart Tiers,
Disable
is fixed.
NOTE:
You cannot specify the
TSE Attribute
option when selecting
Open
in the
System Type
option.
7.
Select the pool according to the following steps.
1.
From the
Drive Type/RPM
list in
Pool Selection
, select the data drive type and RPM.
2.
From the
RAID level
list, select the RAID level.
3.
Click
Select Pool
.
The
Select Pool
window appears.
4.
In the
Available Pools
table, select a pool.
