7.18 Connecting Multiple SUDs to One SUC
This section explains how to connect multiple SUDs to one SUC through mini SAS cables or
optical fibers.
Prerequisites
The following tools and materials have been ready:
l
Mini SAS cables (applicable to the SUD with SAS expansion ports)
l
Optical fibers, optical bundling tape, 4 Gbit/s optical transceivers (applicable to the SUD
with Fibre Channel expansion ports)
l
Cable ties
l
Diagonal pliers
When an SUD is connected to an SUC through the Fibre Channel port, a 4 Gbit/s optical
transceiver required by the SUC's 4 Gbit/s Fibre Channel expansion port will be obtained from
the SUD using either of the following methods:
l
For the loop in which the configuration disk enclosure (namely, the SUD housing coffer
disks) reside, obtain one 4 Gbit/s optical transceivers separately from the second SUD and
the last SUD (the configuration disk enclosure is considered as the first disk enclosure, and
other disk enclosures above the configuration disk enclosure are numbered from the bottom
up).
l
For other loops, obtain one 4 Gbit/s optical transceivers separately from the first SUD and
the last SUD (numbered from the bottom up).
Context
For an N8500 with the S5600T, S5800T or S6800T storage system, connecting multiple SUDs
to one SUC by conforming to the following principles:

All EXP ports can connect only to PRI ports.
