Follow-up Procedure
After replacing the CF card, collect all tools. If the replaced CF card is faulty, fill in the
and send the faulty module with the Repair Transmission Sheet

3.6 Replacing an Optical Module
This section describes the procedure for replacing an optical module.
Context
Before replacing an optical module, note the following:
l
Replacing an optical module interrupts services. Ensure that the optical module is faulty
before replacing it.
l
Only external optical modules can be replaced. Internal optical modules can not be
replaced.
l
You need to take antistatic measures before replacing an optical module.
l
When replacing an optical module, you do not need to swap boards.
l
When removing or inserting optical cables, be careful not to damage the optical cable
connector.
l
When replacing an optical module, do not look directly into the fiber connector because
the laser may harm your eyes.
CAUTION
An optical module is an electrostatic sensitive device. Therefore, you must take antistatic
measures during the whole process of replacing an optical module to prevent the optical
module from being damaged
NOTE
Currently, the USG9500 supports SFP, XFP, SFP+, CFP, and QSFP+ optical modules. Here, the SFP
optical module is used as an example.
Tool
Before replacing an optical module, you need the following tools:
l
ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves
l
ESD bag
Procedure
Step 1
Check the location of the optical module to be replaced.
Before pulling out an optical module that is to be replaced, first check the location of the
module, that is, the cabinet and chassis where the optical module resides, and label the optical
module.
