High compression uses the GSM codec at 13 kilobits per second. It is a
very good compression for voice recording and is recommended for all
your audio notes. High compression requires only about 1 megabyte for
each 10 minutes of recording.
Low compression is 64 kilobits per second MP3. It allows only about 2
minutes of recording per megabyte which is five times the memory
required for the high compression GSM. Therefore, the low compression
MP3 is only recommended for music recording or if you need to access
the recordings on your PC and your PC multi-media software player
cannot play GSM (.WAV) files. Windows Media Player and Winamp can
play GSM files.
To maximize internal memory, all audio bookmarks and audio notes
recorded in internal memory are saved at high compression regardless of
the Menu choice for compression.
Sample recording capacity for SD cards:
64MB SD card 10 hours at high compression, 2 hours at low compression
128MB SD card 20 hours at high compression, 4 hours at low
compression
256MB SD card 40 hours at high compression, 8 hours at low
compression

9.4. Recording Sources
Victor Reader C With Recording allows you to use three recording
sources. Line in, external microphone, or internal microphone.
Victor Reader will announce which of the three recording sources is currently
being used when you plug-in or unplug the appropriate connector in the
external microphone jack or in the recording line-in jack. If nothing is
connected, the internal microphone will be the recording source.
While recording you may switch between any recording source without
stopping the recording. In this case, you should monitor with headphones so
the messages will not feed back into the recording.
Victor Reader will always use the current recording source when you press the
Record key.
When recording from any source, the audio feed is channeled to the
headphones, if connected, so that you can monitor the recording. The line-in
audio feed will be channeled to the speaker if no headphones are connected.
