Sewing
Buttonholes
To sew buttonholes we recommend the button-
hole foot C. The buttonhole foot has a slide that
is adjustable for different sizes of buttons. Put the
button on the foot and push the slide together
as far as it will go. The machine sews the
fi
rst
column in reverse. Stop the machine when the red
mark on the slide has reached the beginning of
the stitching.
Use the markings on the left toe of the button-
hole foot to position the garment edge. Place the
edge of the garment at the middle mark to have
5/8" (15 mm) from the edge to the buttonhole.
When sewing buttonholes in stretch fabrics we
recommend cording the buttonhole to increase
the stability and to keep the buttonhole from
stretching out. For a corded buttonhole loop a
piece of heavy thread around the
fi
nger at the
back of the buttonhole foot as illustrated.
