Starter
Tighten the return spring.
Check the spring tension.
Tighten the return spring.
Pull out the starter cord completely and
slow the starter pulley with your thumb.
Lift the starter cord up out of the cut-
out on starter pulley.
Then turn the starter pulley
anti-
clockwise
4 revolutions.
Check the spring tension. With the cord
completely pulled out the cord pulley
should be able to be turned at
least
another half revolution.
Fit the starter.
Ensure that the rubber bushing
between the fuel tank and the starter is
in position.
Tighten the 3 screws.
Fit the starter on the engine body.
1. Loosen the screw holding the
cylinder cover so that it sits loosely.
2. Check that the rubber bushing (A)
is in position.
3. Insert the starter under the cylinder
cover and press in the lower edge
of the starter against the rubber
bushing.
4. Fit the 3 screws and tighten the
screws holding the cylinder cover.
5. Check that the starter works.
Replacing the drive
Dismantle the drive with the help of slip-
joint pliers.
Insert a counterhold between the
clutch’s fixing bosses on the flywheel.
Replacing the drive
The drive is screwed onto the
crankshaft.
To dismantle hold the flywheel firmly.
1. Dismantle the air filter cowling,
cylinder cover, clutch cover and fan
housing cover.
2. Insert a heavy duty screwdriver or,
for example, the shaft of puller no.
502 51 49-01 between the fixing
bosses for the clutch on the
flywheel.
3. Loosen the drive using slip-joint
pliers.
