To examine the direction of rotation of
the cutting blade
1. Find the arrows on the cutting arm that show the
direction of rotation of the spindle shaft.
2. Find the arrow on the cutting blade that shows the
direction of rotation of the cutting blade.
3. Make sure that the direction arrows of the cutting
blade and the spindle shaft have the same direction.
To install the cutting blade
WARNING: Make sure that the engine is off
and that the stop switch is in the STOP
position.
WARNING: Always use protective gloves
when you assemble the product.
1. Examine the flange washers and the spindle shaft.

2. Push back and hold the SmartGuard in the retracted
position.
Note: This step only applies to K 970 SmartGuard.
3. Put the cutting blade on the arbor bushing (A)
between the inner flange washer (B) and the flange
washer (C). Turn the flange washer until it holds on
to the shaft.

4. Put a tool into the hole in the cutting head and turn
the cutting blade until the shaft is locked.
5. Tighten the cutting blade bolt to 30 Nm/18.5 ft-lb.
To reverse the cutting head (K 970 III,
K 970 III Rescue)
WARNING: Only cut with the cutting head
reversed if a standard procedure is not
possible.
The product has a reversible cutting head that lets you
cut near a wall or at ground level. Only cut with the
cutting head reversed if a standard procedure is not
possible. If a kickback occurs, it is more difficult to
control the product if the cutting head is reversed. The
distance between the cutting blade and the center of the
product is longer, which means that the handle and the
cutting blade do not align. This has a negative effect on
the balance in the product and it is more difficult to hold
