Inner Frame Assembly
4500 SRM 971
WARNING
Be careful when removing or installing snap
rings.
These snap rings are large and can
come loose during removal or installation with
enough force to cause an injury. Always use
the correct snap ring pliers, and wear eye and
face protection during removal or installation.
CAUTION
Do not let the load bearings or shims fall off the
scissor arms.
NOTE:
Correct placement of shims is critical for the
operation of the reach mechanism. Unless the shims
are installed correctly, the reach mechanism will not
operate.
10. Install the shims and load bearings on scissor
arm weldment A as marked during removal and
disassembly. If necessary, use tape to keep the
load bearings on the scissor arms. Install the
hoses on the hose sheaves, and install the hose
sheaves and snap rings at the mounts of the scis-
sor arm weldments.
Inner Frame Assembly
For the following procedures, refer to Figure 12.
NOTE:
If the scissor arm assembly will be removed,
it is easier to remove while the inner frame is still in-
stalled in the mast. See Single-Reach Scissor Arms,
Remove and Disassemble or Double-Reach Scissor
Arms, Remove and Disassemble to remove the scis-
sor arm assembly.
REMOVE
NOTE:
Remove the inner frame to replace the reach
assembly load rollers or side rollers. Other repairs
to the inner frame can be done without removing the
inner frame. The inner frame can be removed by re-
moving the complete reach assembly from the mast
as one assembly. The inner frame assembly can also
be removed after the scissor assembly has been re-
moved.
CAUTION
DO NOT operate any functions if the outer
frame has been removed.
Hydraulic oil can
come out of the hoses.
1.
If the outer frame assembly is installed, operate
the REACH/RETRACT control handle to fully re-
tract the forks. Use safety chains to fasten the
parts of the reach assembly so the forks cannot
extend.
2.
Operate the LIFT/LOWER control handle to
raise the reach assembly or inner frame assem-
bly until the rollers of the inner frame are above
the top of the front weldment.
3.
Move the key to the OFF position and disconnect
the battery.
NOTE:
Use safety chains on the inner frame and
mast weldments to keep the inner frame and mast
weldments from moving. Install the safety chains as
described in Safety Procedures When Working Near
Mast.
4.
Use safety chains to fasten the reach assembly or
inner frame assembly and outer weldment of the
mast so that they cannot move.
WARNING
Be careful when removing or installing snap
rings.
These snap rings are large and can
come loose during removal or installation with
enough force to cause an injury. Always use
the correct snap ring pliers, and wear eye and
face protection during removal or installation.
Remove the snap rings, washers, thrust rollers, and
spacers. Install labels on the thrust rollers for correct
installation during installation.
5.
Remove the safety chains installed in Step 4.
Lower the reach assembly or inner frame assem-
bly for access to the chain anchors of the inner
frame. Install safety chains so they support the
reach assembly or inner frame and the lift chains
become loose. Move the key to the OFF position
and disconnect the battery.
