Working with Options on the System Board
This section provides instructions for installing, removing, and replacing
system memory.
Accessing the System Board
To access the system board, you must remove the computer cover. For
information on removing the computer cover, see “Removing the Cover” on
page 56. You might need to remove adapters in order to access some
components of the system board. For information about expansion
adapters, see “Working with Adapters” on page 68. When disconnecting
cables, be sure to note where they attach, so you can correctly reattach them
later.
Note:
For easier access to the system board, it helps to place the computer
on its side on a table.
Identifying Parts on the System Board
The system board, also called the planar or motherboard, is the main circuit
board in your computer. It provides basic computer functions and supports
a variety of devices that are IBM-installed or that you can install later.
Refer to the following illustration for the location of parts on the system
board.

provided on a label located on the inside of the computer chassis.
