Preparing for Hot Repair or Upgrade
Use this task to see a summary of required actions that must be performed in order to isolate a particular
hardware component as part of a service procedure.
1.
On the
Welcome
page, under the
Resources
tab, select the server.

Click
Actions
>
Service and Support
>
Hardware
>
Prepare for Hot Repair or Upgrade
.
3.
Select the base location code that contains the field-replaceable unit (FRU) to be serviced or the GX
adapter to be replaced.
4.
Click
Next
.
5.
Select either
Delay the service procedure
or
Continue the service procedure non-concurrently
> click
Next
.
6.
Click
OK
.
Exchange FRU
Use this task to exchange one field-replaceable unit (FRU) with another.
1.
On the
Welcome
page, under the
Resources
tab, select the server.
2.
Click
Actions
>
Service and Support
>
Hardware
>
Exchange FRU
.
3.
Select an installed enclosure type from the drop-down list.
4.
From the list of FRU types for this enclosure, select a FRU type.
5.
Click
Next
to display a list of locations for the FRU type.
6.
Select the location code for a specific FRU.
7.
Click
Add
to add the FRU location to
Pending Actions
.
8.
Click
Launch Procedure
to begin replacing the FRUs listed in
Pending Actions
.
9.
Click
Finish
when you have completed the FRU installation.
Power On/Off Unit
Use this task to power on or off an IO unit.
1.
On the
Welcome
page, under the
Resources
tab, select the server.

Power On/Off Unit

Select the I/O Unit or PCI slot to either activate or deactivate for this managed server. Only units or
slots that reside in a power domain can be powered on or off. The corresponding power on/off
buttons will be disabled for location codes that are not controlled by an IBM Systems Director
Management Console

Power On
or
Power Off
to either activate or deactivate the I/O Unit or PCI slot respectively.

Click
Advanced
if you must set advanced power functions. The advanced power functions should be
used only under the guidance of your service provider.
